“Mechanic,” from the show, sung by Paige O’Malley
“The calendar gods knew we needed a laugh! And in this stormy political moment they’re giving us a distracting little porno comedy from Elaine May called Adult Entertainment! A riot!”
– The Washington Post
“Wildly funny! A highly enjoyable romp! A brilliant comedic concept – deadpan humor on the adult film industry marries up with mockery of highbrow culture! Fun, fizzy, and surprisingly human!”
– Broadway World
“Wonderful performances, under Joe Banno’s stellar direction! Truly, the acting is terrific! Excellent!”
– DC Metro Theater Arts
Heidi the Ho, Vixen, Jimbo, and the gang are sick of doing just porn. They wanna make a real movie, with real impact. So with “art” in mind, they enlist their Yale-educated cameraman to write the script. But when his penchant for Dylan poetry, The Jew of Malta, and other academic mumbo-jumbo doesn’t quite line up with their expectations, the stage is set for the kind of comedy that can only come from the mind of Elaine May.
Acclaimed director Joe Banno swooped in from L.A. to helm this DC premiere of Elaine May’s Adult Entertainment. Known for his productions of Mamet, and daring updates of Shakespeare, Banno has a sure hand with edgy, take-no-prisoners comedy, and the production was a huge hit, selling every ticket to every performance. It also marked the second play by Elaine May to be mounted by The Klunch, which staged George Is Dead as the company’s debut production, in 2015.
